Though not my favorite episode from the series, I wonder if this spurred CBS to make the series Beauty and The Beast. I was glad to see John Astin in the episode.

Yes that makes perfect sense that could be an influence.  Also, did the 3rd Episode per chance have any influence on the movie "This Island" watching that in the past few days just reminded me of that movie.
